Welcome to S.O.A.R (Science Olympiad and Robotics) - the SPORT of SCIENCE!

Team S.O.A.R. is active all year.  Our team focuses on FLL Robotics through October; we focus on Science Olympiad November through April, and then we create virtual worlds and games using Alice 2.2 after SOAR competition.  We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:35-5:00.  Students stay in homeroom until second bus load is called.

First Lego League (FLL) Robotics Camp will be held Monday, Aug 9 - Thursday, Aug 12 from 9:00-3:00 pm, at Central Wilkes Middle School. We have 20 spaces available, first come-first serve. Grades 6-8 (2020-21 school year) are eligible. Cost: $50 (Monday, bring check payable to CWMS - Team SOAR or $ in sealed envelope with student's name on outside.) Bring lunch and snack daily. Students will be picked up in front car line at 3:00. See S.O.A.R.'s webpage in the club section of our school website for further information. If you still have questions, email Julie Colglazier: colglazierj@wilkes.k12.nc.us

2017 Challenge: Hydro Dynamics - Exploring Location, Use, Storage, and Movement of Water

FIRST® LEGO® League challenges kids to think like scientists and engineers. During the HYDRO DYNAMICSSM season, teams will choose and solve a real-world problem in the Project. They will also build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO® MINDSTORMS®technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game. Throughout their experience, teams will operate under the FIRST LEGO League signature set of Core Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism®.

Science Olympiad  Scroll down and click on Division B (middle school) to explore events.  These are actually last year's events, but it will give you a good idea of what to expect. Some events are held every year; others, are rotated to give more variety/opportunities.

Try searching through Google or YouTube for events that are not live links. Group meetings/practices for SO will begin in November.
